The finish of the NAIA Cross Country National Championships brings the end of the cross country season and a gear change for the runners who competed. Meanwhile, the track athletes have been prepping for the opening of their season, awaiting their turn to compete. The track and field team will start their indoor season at the MTSU Christmas Invitational on Dec. 12.

The team will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for their first meet. Head coach Chris Layne said his goal for the first meet is to "make the most of it."

"We want just to get our feet wet, and we're going to run through it," said Layne.

Layne said that the main focus of the season is the NAIA Track and Field National Championships hosted by Milligan. The Niswonger Invitational meet will provide the team with an opportunity to compete on the same track as the national meet, in the Mini-Dome at ETSU.

"The bottom line is to prepare the athletes to the best of their ability," said Layne about the team's preparations for the national meet.

The track team's indoor season will last from their first meet on Dec. 12 to the national championship, ending on March 6.
