Saturday evening 150 juniors and seniors dressed in fun and formal attire and attended "Twisted Elegance," the annual Junior/Senior banquet, at The Meadowview in Kingsport.

President Don Jeanes started the night by blessing the meal. Then Vice President of Institutional Advancement Bill Greer gave a speech. In his speech, Greer encouraged the students, mostly the seniors, to not be the weakest link.

To remind the audience of how far Milligan has come and how modern it is to have such activities as dancing hosted by the school, Greer added several humorous tales of demerits that were handed out to students who attended Milligan in the 1920s.

A student named Roselyn apparently was quite the rebel -- about every other demerit on the list belonged to her. For the most scandalous of activities, dancing, she was assessed a 20-demerit mark, the highest demerit Greer found recorded.

One girl received demerits for talking out her window, others received some for being in the classroom before the bell rang, talking to boys and for playing tennis with the opposite sex out of season and, believe it or not, one girl received a demerit for being in the drug store with Earl.

After Greer spoke, Associate Professor of Bible Jeff Miller stepped up to the microphone to hand out the senior superlatives. These superlatives were awarded for everything from best personality, biggest ditz and most school spirit.

During these speeches, the attendees enjoyed a dinner of chicken marsala, potatoes, green beans and salad, and finished off with either a slice of chocolate cake or caramel apple pie.

Junior Adam Knust commented on the quality of the food, saying it was "very good." Knust also added that he "used to work at a banquet hall similar to that, and it was much better quality than the one I worked at."

After dinner, attendees hit the dance floor to a variety of tunes from a disc jockey.

The junior class, run by Junior Class President Kelly Alexander, planned the evening.

"Everything went really well," said Alexander. "It looked great and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves."

Senior Megan Johnson commented on how nice all the decorations looked, and also added that her "date was awesome."
