Buffs2Work, Milligan's new Web-based career development program, works as an online data management program that allows Beth Anderson, director of the Institute for Servant Leadership, to connect current Milligan students and alumni with potential employment in internships, summer jobs and full-time positions.
"It's your connection to jobs all over the United States, with employers looking for people right out of college," said Anderson. "You, as students, can go to Buffs2Work to find out info on career development, workshops, career fairs, career interviews, and my goal is to put more resources on the Web for you to utilize."
In order to use Buffs2Work, students should go to www.milligan.edu/career and upload their resumes for potential employers to review.
Buffs2Work uses a company called NACElink to connect employers with 650 colleges nationally.
Previously, Milligan used a three-ring binder full of local companies that expressed interested in hiring students to match students with jobs. By going digital, Milligan has expanded their database of potential employers to 103 from 75, an increase of just over 37 percent.
NACElink is available to students and alumni of Milligan College and also contains a powerful Internet search engine to help Milligan students and alumni find work anywhere in the country.
Although Buffs2Work was first advertised last week, the unveiling of the Web site has been delayed due to technical difficulties.
The problem is a communication failure between Milligan's server and NACElink's server called Simplicity.
Milligan's Network Manager Chris Haskins has been working to fix the problem.
"Milligan servers are receiving the connection from Simplicity, but the Milligan server is refusing the message," said Haskins. "We're waiting on a test message to go through."
"It is working on the employer side," said Anderson, "but not on the student side."
When asked how soon the Buffs2Work program could be up and running Haskins replied, "I certainly hope this week."
